‘World News Tonight With David Muir’ Is the No. 1 Program in U.S. Across All of Broadcast and Cable for 4th Week in a Row

‘World News Tonight’ Is Winning in Total Viewers for the 5th Consecutive Season and in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 2nd Season in a Row

For the 4th consecutive week, ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 program on all broadcast and cable television in the U.S. in Total Viewers (7.611 million) for the week of June 28, 2021, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. The ABC evening newscast also held the top 4 telecasts of the week: Monday (7.760 million – No. 1), Tuesday (7.750 million – No. 2), Wednesday (7.563 million – No. 3), and Thursday (7.371 million – No. 4).
“World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast across all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.611 million), Adults 25-54 (1.331 million) and Adults 18-49 (913,000). “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (6.653 million, 1.182 million and 807,000, respectively) by 958,000 Total Viewers, by 149,000 Adults 25-54 and by 106,000 Adults 18-49.
“World News Tonight” increased its margins over NBC on the same week last year in Adults 25-54 (+62% – 149,000 vs. 92,000) and Adults 18-49 (+203% – 106,000 vs. 35,000).
“World News Tonight” ranked as the evening’s No. 1 newscast for the last 66 weeks in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49. In addition, “World News Tonight” has won the last 136 weeks overall in Total Viewers.
Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.951 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 5th consecutive season, based on Most Current Data. In fact, the ABC evening newscast is increasing its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.474 million) from the same point last season (+36% – 1.477 million vs. 1.084 million) to its largest season lead in 26 years—since the 1994-1995 season. “World News Tonight” is beating “CBS Evening News” (5.528 million) by 3.423 million.
“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 2nd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is leading NBC by its largest margin in Adults 25-54 (+281,000 – 1.735 million vs. 1.454 million) in 25 years and in Adults 18-49 (+202,000 – 1.211 million vs. 1.009 million) in 26 years—since the 1995-1996 and the 1994-1995 seasons, respectively.
For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.611 million, 1.331 million and 913,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.867 million, 852,000 and 638,000, respectively) by 2.744 million Total Viewers, by 479,000 Adults 25-54 and by 275,000 Adults 18-49.
NOTE: On Friday (7/2/21), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “Wrld News Tonite,” “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws” and “NBC Nightly News” was retitled to “NBC Nitely News.” The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
