‘World News Tonight’ Is Ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th Consecutive Season and in Both Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd Season in a Row

World News Tonight with David Muirranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (9.391 million), Adults 25-54 (1.804 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.234 million) during the week of Jan. 3, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

 

“World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (8.209 million, 1.554 million and 1.115 million, respectively) by 1.182 million Total Viewers, by 250,000 Adults 25-54 and by 119,000 Adults 18-49.

David Muir’s interview with three of the officers who testified during the congressional hearings on the Jan. 6 attack (Jan. 5, 2022) had 9.4 million viewers, as part of ABC News’ special coverage, led by Muir, of the one-year anniversary of the attack on the Capitol.  

“World News Tonight” has won the last 161 of 162 weeks in Total Viewers and 91 of the last 93 weeks in Adults 25-54.

 

World News Tonightwas the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (9.391 million) on all of television (excluding sports and syndication).

 

For the 3rd week in a row, “World News Tonight” scored week-to-week gains in Total Viewers (+7%/+644,000 – 9.391 million vs. 8.747 million), Adults 25-54 (+13%/+202,000 – 1.804 million vs. 1.602 million) and Adults 18-49 (+6%/+65,000 – 1.234 million vs. 1.169), hitting 10-month highs across the board – since weeks of 2/22/21, 3/1/21 and 2/15/21, respectively.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.343 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (7.225 million) by 1.118 million and “CBS Evening News” (5.142 million) by 3.201 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+231,000 – 1.528 million vs. 1.297 million) and Adults 18-49 (+135,000 – 1.047 million vs. 912,000)

For the week, “World News Tonight” (9.391 million, 1.804 million and 1.234 million, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (5.705 million, 1.018 million and 721,000, respectively) by 3.686 Total Viewers, by 786,000 Adults 25-54 and by 513,000 Adults 18-49.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EST on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the executive producer of the broadcast.
