World News Tonight with David Muirstood as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (8.958 million), Adults 25-54 (1.739 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.203 million) during the week of Jan. 17, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (7.824 million, 1.444 million and 1.027 million, respectively) by 1.134 million Total Viewers, by 295,000 Adults 25-54 and by 176,000 Adults 18-49.   

“World News Tonight” widened its lead with NBC week to week in Total Viewers (+17% – 1.134 million vs. 971,000), Adults 25-54 (+6% – 295,000 vs. 279,000) and Adults 18-49 (+17% – 176,000 vs. 150,000).

“World News Tonight” has won the last 164 of 165 weeks in Total Viewers and 93 of the last 95 weeks in Adults 25-54.

World News Tonightwas the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (8.958 million) on all of television (excluding sports and syndication).

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.427 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (7.316 million) by 1.111 million and “CBS Evening News” (5.217 million) by 3.210 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+238,000 – 1.555 million vs. 1.317 million) and Adults 18-49 (+139,000 – 1.067 million vs. 928,000).  

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.958 million, 1.739 million and 1.203 million, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.702 million, 972,000 and 685,000, respectively) by 3.256 Total Viewers, by 767,000 Adults 25-54 and by 518,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: Due to the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday (1/17/22), “World News Tonight” was coded as a special. The telecast is excluded from the weekly season averages. ABC’s averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday).

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EST on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the executive producer of the broadcast.
