‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ Ranks No. 1 in Adults 25-54 During May Sweep, Leading Both CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’ and NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ for the 2nd Year in a Row

“This Week with George Stephanopoulos” ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 (579,000) during the May 2022 sweep, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. Leading both CBS’ “Face the Nation” and NBC’s “Meet the Press” during the month for the 2nd year in a row, “This Week” turned in its first back-to-back May sweep wins in Adults 25-54 in 29 years — since May 1992 and May 1993. Overall, “This Week” has won 4 of the last 5 sweep periods in the key Adult news demo.

 

“The Week” saw its largest May sweep margin in Adults 25-54 in 22 years over “Face the Nation” and in 8 years over “Meet the Press” — since May 2000 and May 2014, respectively.

 

“This Week” (2.622 million) defeated “Meet the Press” (2.389 million) in Total Viewers (+233,000) during a May sweep for the first time in 7 years with its largest lead during the month in 8 years — since May 2015 and May 2014, respectively. 

 

In addition, “This Week” narrowed its Total Viewers gap with “Face the Nation” by 73% (104,000 vs. 385,000) from the year-ago sweep to its smallest margin during the month in 13 years – since May 2009. “This Week” also cut its margin with the CBS program from the previous sweep (-21% – 104,000 vs. 132,000) to its smallest sweep margin in nearly 7 years – since July 2015.

 

“This Week” grew from the year-ago sweep (May 2021) in Adults 25-54 (+4% – 579,000 vs. 555,000) and was the only public affairs program to improve.

“This Week with George Stephanopoulos” ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 on Sunday, May 22, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “This Week” took the top spot for the 4th week running and for the 6th time in the last 7 weeks. 

 

“This Week” posted increases from the year-ago Sunday in Total Viewers (+11% – 2.625 million vs. 2.365 million) and Adults 25-54 (+2% – 534,000 vs. 522,000), standing as the only public affairs program to grow year to year.

 

“This Week” improved on the previous week in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.625 million vs. 2.573 million) and Adults 25-54 (+6% – 534,000 vs. 503,000), drawing its largest overall audience in 5 weeks — since 4/17/22.

 

Season to date, “This Week” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54, leading CBS’ “Face the Nation” and NBC’s “Meet the Press” for the first time in 28 years — since the 1993-94 season. 

 

“This Week” is leading NBC’s “Meet the Press” in Total Viewers season to date for the first time in 7 years and by its largest lead in 25 years — since the 2014-2015 and the 1996-1997 seasons, respectively. In addition, “This Week” is cutting its season margin with “Face the Nation” by 21% (274,000 vs. 345,000) to its smallest gap in 12 years — since the 2009-2010 season.

 

NOTE: NBC’s “Meet the Press” was preempted due to English Premiere League Soccer.
