For 8th Straight Week, ‘World News Tonight With David Muir’ Is #1 Program on All of Television, Winning in Total Viewers, Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49 — Increasing Lead Over NBC Year to Year in All Key Demos

‘World News Tonight’ Leads NBC by 1.3 Million and CBS by 3.1 Million Viewers

 

‘World News Tonight’ Is Only Evening Newscast to Grow Year to Year, Seeing Increases in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

 

‘World News Tonight’ Is Ranking #1 in Total Viewers for the 6th Consecutive Season and in Both Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd Season in a Row

World News Tonight with David Muirstood as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.400 million) on all of television (excluding sports) during the week of May 30, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” has ranked as the week’s No. 1 program for the 8th straight week (excluding sports).

 

“World News Tonight” was the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.400 million), Adults 25-54 (1.341 million) and Adults 18-49 (885,000), beating “NBC Nightly News” (6.062 million, 976,000 and 705,000, respectively) by 1.338 million Total Viewers, by 365,000 Adults 25-54 and by 180,000 Adults 18-49.

 

“World News Tonight” widened its lead over NBC year to year across the board: Total Viewers (+36% – 1.338 million vs. 981,000), Adults 25-54 (+96% – 365,000 vs. 186,000) and Adults 18-49 (+80% – 180,000 vs. 100,000).

 

“World News Tonight” has won the last 183 of 184 weeks in Total Viewers and 112 of the last 114 weeks in Adults 25-54.

 

“World News Tonight” turned in increases on the same week last year in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+1%/+93,000 – 7.400 million vs. 7.307 million), Adults 25-54 (+2%/+31,000 – 1.341 million vs. 1.310 million) and Adults 18-49 (+2%/+14,000 – 885,000 vs. 871,000), standing as the only evening newscast to grow year to year.

 

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.394 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (7.114 million) by 1.280 million and “CBS Evening News” (5.097 million) by 3.297 million.

 

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+268,000 – 1.537 million vs. 1.269 million) and Adults 18-49 (+155,000 – 1.050 million vs. 895,000).

 

For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.400 million, 1.341 million and 885,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.300 million, 706,000 and 497,000, respectively) by 3.100 Total Viewers, by 635,000 Adults 25-54 and by 388,000 Adults 18-49.

 

NOTE: On Memorial Day Monday (5/30/22), all three programs were coded as specials. On Thursday, “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” due to Game 1 of the NBA Finals and “NBC Nightly News” was retitled to “NBC Nitely News.”  The specialed and retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s and NBC’s weekly averages are based on three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) and CBS’ averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday).

 

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the senior executive producer of the broadcast.
