‘World News Tonight’ Is Ranking #1 in Total Viewers for the 6th Consecutive Season and in Both Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd Season in a Row

World News Tonight with David Muirstood as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.449 million) on all of television (excluding sports) during the week of Aug. 29, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” has ranked as the week’s No. 1 program for 21 weeks in a row (excluding sports).

“World News Tonight” finished as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.449 million), Adults 25-54 (1.275 million) and Adults 18-49 (847,000), outperforming “NBC Nightly News” (6.158 million, 980,000 and 656,000, respectively) by 1.291 million Total Viewers, by 295,000 Adults 25-54 and by 191,000 Adults 18-49. In addition, “World News Tonight” widened its advantage over the NBC program week to week in Total Viewers (+12%; vs. 1.157 million) and Adults 25-54 (+23%; vs. 239,000).

“World News Tonight” has won the last 196 of 197 weeks in Total Viewers and 125 of the last 127 in Adults 25-54.

“World News Tonight” posted gains from the previous week in Total Viewers (+3%/+223,000 – 7.449 million vs. 7.228 million) and Adults 25-54 (+4%/+50,000 – 1.275 million vs. 1.225 million), standing as the only evening newscast to see increases in both measures.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.175 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.895 million) by 1.280 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.956 million) by 3.219 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+277,000 – 1.479 million vs. 1.202 million) and Adults 18-49 (+169,000 – 1.014 million vs. 845,000).  In fact, “World News Tonight” is posting its largest Adults 25-54 lead in 27 years — since the 1994-1995 season.

In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (838,000 and 583,000, respectively) by 641,000 Adults 25-54 and by 431,000 Adults 18-49.

For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.449 million, 1.275 million and 847,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.239 million, 690,000 and 449,000, respectively) by 3.210 Total Viewers, by 585,000 Adults 25-54 and by 398,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Friday (9/2/22), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC,” “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws,” and “NBC Nightly News” was retitled to “NBC Nitely News” due to the Labor Day weekend. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
