Dr. Megan Winton

As a staff scientist with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC), Dr. Megan Winton is combining research and cutting-edge technology to build a database that identifies individual sharks by logging their unique visual characteristics. (Think dorsal fin notches, pigment patterns, scarring, and more.) Also a Ph.D. candidate at UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science & Technology, Winton specializes in quantitative fisheries biology—and uses statistical analysis to determine the habitat use and population dynamics of sharks off Cape Cod.
