Joe Nussbaum

Joe Nussbaum is the director of the Disney Channel Original Movie “Upside-Down Magic,” based on The New York Times best-selling children’s books of the same name. Since making the acclaimed short film “George Lucas in Love,” in 1999, Nussbaum has been working as a director, writer and producer in movies, television and commercials. He has directed the feature films “Sleepover,” “American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile,” “Sydney White” and Disney’s “Prom.” Nussbaum has also directed over 50 episodes of television for MTV, ABC, NBC, FOX, ABC Family and Amazon, including multiple episodes of MTV’s acclaimed series “Awkward,” on which he was also a writer. Additionally, Nussbaum has written feature scripts for Warner Bros., Fox, Sony, New Regency, Alcon, Walden and GK Films, including the 2016 independent release “The Late Bloomer.” In the kids’ television space, Nussbaum currently serves as the executive producer of Disney Channel’s popular live-action, sci-fi comedy series “Gabby Duran & The Unsittables.” He also served as director and executive producer on the hit Amazon show “Just Add Magic,” which ran for four seasons and recently received a 2020 Emmy® nomination for “Outstanding Children’s Series.”
