‘World News Tonight’ Grows Margins Year to Year In All Demos Over NBC

“World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 newscast on all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.358 million), Adults 25-54 (1.035 million) and Adults 18-49 (716,000) during the week of March 11, 2024, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (5.912 million, 801,000 and 531,000, respectively) by 1.446 million Total Viewers, by 234,000 Adults 25-54 and by 185,000 Adults 18-49, respectively.

“World News Tonight” widened its margins over “NBC Nightly News” versus the previous week in Total Viewers (+2% – 1.446 million vs. 1.441 million), Adults 25-54 (+28% – 234,000 vs. 183,000) and Adults 18-49 (+16% – 16,000 vs. 159,000) to its largest of the season. In fact, “World News Tonight” turned in its largest lead in Total Viewers in 6 months, in Adults 25-54 in nearly 8 months and in Adults 18-49 in nearly 9 months — since weeks of 9/11/24, 7/17/23 and 6/26/23, respectively.

On Thursday (3/12/24), “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” by its largest single-day lead (+1.870 million – 7.657 million vs. 5.787 million) in 8 months – since 8/18/23, based on regular telecasts.

“World News Tonight” increased its lead over “NBC Nightly News” on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+9% – 1.446 million vs. 1.326 million), Adults 25-54 (+18% – 234,000 vs. 199,000) and Adults 18-49 (+26% – 185,000 vs. 147,000).

“World News Tonight” has won the last 276 of 277 weeks in Total Viewers and 204 of the last 207 in Adults 25-54.

World News Tonight with David Muirstood as the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.358 million) on all of broadcast and cable.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.023 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 8th straight year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.826 million) by 1.197 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.892 million) by 3.131 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 5th consecutive season. “World News Tonight” is leading NBC in Adults 25-54 (+89,000 – 1.126 million vs. 1.037 million) and in Adults 18-49 (+75,000 – 775,000 vs. 700,000). In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (701,000 and 479,000, respectively) by 425,000 Adults 25-54 and by 296,000 Adults 18-49.

For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.358 million, 1.035 million and 716,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.415 million, 645,000 and 444,000, respectively) by 2.943 million Total Viewers, by 390,000 Adults 25-54 and by 272,000 Adults 18-49.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the senior executive producer of the broadcast.
