ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic announced today the promotions of Jay O’Brien to correspondent, based in Washington, D.C., and Morgan Norwood to correspondent, based in New York. In their new roles, O’Brien will continue to cover the biggest stories and issues on Capitol Hill, and Norwood will deliver high-impact reporting across all programs and platforms.

“Morgan is a talented reporter whose versatility in covering breaking news, investigating stories and spearheading in-depth features have made her an asset to ABC News, and we look forward to more of her compelling storytelling for our audience,” said Karamehmedovic.

Norwood added, “I’m excited to extend my tenure in the ABC family, which I have been a part of since the beginning of my career, and continue giving a voice to the stories that shape our world.”

“Jay has made an impact with his dedicated reporting and his tenacity in chasing and landing important stories on the Hill that drive the news cycle,” said Karamehmedovic. “In this new role, he will be even more instrumental in providing essential information and context to our audience during this unprecedented time.”

O’Brien added, “It has been an absolute privilege to contribute to ABC News’ reporting of pivotal political events over the past few years, and I am ready to continue giving our audience a front-row seat to history with breaking news, exclusive interviews and enterprise reporting.”

O’Brien, an Emmy® Award-winning journalist, has been an important part of ABC News’ political coverage, most recently as a multiplatform reporter. He has been critical in reporting notable stories on Congress since the November 2022 midterms, including the 15-round vote for the election of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in January 2023 and his subsequent ousting by Rep. Matt Gaetz nine months later.

He covered the 2024 presidential election, including the campaigns, debate, numerous rallies and both the Republican and Democratic conventions. In 2024, O’Brien spearheaded the ABC News Live special “January 6th: The Fight to Rewrite History” and sat down with the president of the NRA for the organization’s first network interview in nearly a decade.

Prior to joining ABC News, O’Brien was a reporter at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he reported on the 2020 presidential election, the Surfside building collapse and Hurricane Dorian’s devastation in the Bahamas. He also interviewed then-former President Donald Trump and sat down with Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida in one of the first local TV interviews of his 2022 reelection campaign.

Before this role, Norwood was a multiplatform reporter who led ABC News’ coverage of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, the deadly New Year’s Day tragedy in New Orleans, and the aftermath of Hurricane Ernesto in Bermuda. She provided in-depth reporting on the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO and spoke with survivors directly impacted by the Columbine High School shooting as they reflected on 25 years of grief and healing.

For ABC News Live’s “Prime with Linsey Davis,” she conducted an in-depth investigation into medical examiner classifications of inmates who die in police custody, examined a controversial reparations policy in Rhode Island, and highlighted unique challenges that historically Black colleges and universities face navigating debt and funding issues.

Before joining ABC News in 2021, Norwood spent the bulk of her reporting career with WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, where she reported extensively on the U.S. military at Fort Bragg, embedding with troops both domestically and abroad.
