For 17th Consecutive Week, ‘World News Tonight With David Muir’ Is the #1 Program on All of Television — America’s #1 Newscast, Leading in Total Viewers, Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49

‘World News Tonight’ Leads NBC by 1.4 Million and CBS by 2.9 Million Viewers

Season to Date, ‘World News Tonight’ Is Seeing Its Largest Adults 25-54 Lead in 26 Years

‘World News Tonight’ Is Ranking #1 in Total Viewers for the 6th Consecutive Season

World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.435 million) on all of television during the week of Aug. 1, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” has ranked as the week’s No. 1 program for 17 weeks in a row (excluding sports).

“World News Tonight” finished as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.435 million), Adults 25-54 (1.278 million) and Adults 18-49 (871,000), leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.022 million, 927,000 and 634,000, respectively) by 1.413 million Total Viewers, by 351,000 Adults 25-54 and by 237,000 Adults 18-49. 

“World News Tonight” has won the last 192 of 193 weeks in Total Viewers and 121 of the last 123 in Adults 25-54 (including the last 52 weeks/1 year).

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.241 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.953 million) by 1.288 million and “CBS Evening News” (5.001 million) by 3.240 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+279,000 – 1.496 million vs. 1.217 million) and Adults 18-49 (+167,000 – 1.024 million vs. 857,000). In fact, “World News Tonight” is posting its largest Adults 25-54 lead in 26 years – since the 1995-1996 season. In addition, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (848,000 and 592,000, respectively) by 648,000 Adults 25-54 and by 432,000 Adults 18-49.

For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.435 million, 1.278 million and 871,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.502 million, 751,000 and 494,000, respectively) by 2.933 Total Viewers, by 527,000 Adults 25-54 and by 377,000 Adults 18-49.

 

NOTE: On Thursday (8/4/22), “NBC Nightly News” was retitled to “NBC Nitely News” due to NFL preseason football. On Friday (8/5/22), “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws.” The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. CBS’ (Monday-Thursday) and NBC’s (Monday-Wednesday and Friday) weekly averages are based on four days.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the senior executive producer of the broadcast.
