Will Carr

Will Carr was named a Los Angeles-based ABC News correspondent in 2018.

Since joining ABC News, Carr has covered some of the biggest domestic and international stories in the news. He led the network’s coverage of the Camp Fire — the state’s deadliest and most destructive fire in history — which killed 85 people in Paradise, California. He reported from hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic and from the front lines during hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides, floods, earthquakes, droughts and volcanoes, including covering explosions from the Kilauea volcano live from the evacuation zones in Hawai’i. In 2019, Carr traveled to New Zealand to cover the terror attacks on two Christchurch mosques that killed more than 50 people and led to major changes in the country’s gun laws.

Prior to joining the network, Carr was a national cable news correspondent where he covered the presidential campaign trail in 2016, investigated accountability at the Department of Veteran Affairs, and documented cartel violence in Mexico, reporting from inside cartel super tunnels that run from Tijuana to San Diego. He also reported on the San Bernardino terrorist attacks, violent protests in Ferguson, Missouri, and from Houston during Hurricane Harvey — one of the United States’ costliest natural disasters

Carr started out as an intern at ABC affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta and went on to work as a reporter and anchor for ABC affiliates WTVC in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While at KOAT, Carr broke a major story about an arms trafficking ring at the Mexican border that led to the federal arrest of a town’s mayor and police chief. He was named New Mexico Broadcasters Association’s Reporter of the Year in 2011 for exceptional breaking news coverage and investigative stories.

Carr graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in broadcast journalism. He’s on the Grady School of Journalism’s GSAB Board. In his spare time, he’s an avid writer, reader and yogi. He’s also a volunteer basketball coach at the Boys and Girls Club in Santa Monica.
