ADULTS 25-54 AND ADULTS 18-49

 

‘World News Tonight’ Leads NBC by 1.6 Million and CBS by 3.1 Million Total Viewers

 

‘World News Tonight’ Is Winning the 5th Consecutive Season In Total Viewers and 2nd Season in a Row in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

 

“World News Tonight” ranked as the evening’s No. 1 newscast across all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (8.175 million), Adults 25-54 (1.598 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.118 million) for the week of April 5, 2021, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” (6.597 million, 1.167 million and 811,000, respectively) by 1.578 million Total Viewers, by 431,000 Adults 25-54 and by 307,000 Adults 18-49.

 

“World News Tonight increased its lead with NBC week to week in Total Viewers (+31% – 1.578 million vs. 1.207 million), Adults 25-54 (+50% – 431,000 vs. 288,000) and Adults 18-49 (+20% – 307,000 vs. 255,000).

 

“World News Tonight” widened its margin of victory over NBC on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+11% – 1.578 million vs. 1.424 million), Adults 25-54 (+185% – 431,000 vs. 151,000) and Adults 18-49 (+309% – 307,000 vs. 75,000).

 

“World News Tonight” ranked as the evening’s No. 1 newscast for the last 54 weeks in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49. In addition, “World News Tonight” has won the last 124 weeks overall in Total Viewers.

 

“World News Tonight” grew week to week in Total Viewers (+40,000 – 8.175 million vs. 8.135 million) Adults 25-54 (+45,000 – 1.598 million vs. 1.553 million) and Adults 18-49 (+4,000 – 1.118 million vs. 1.114 million).

 

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (9.429 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 5th consecutive season, based onMost Current Data. In fact, the ABC evening newscast is substantially increasing its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.875 million) from the same point last season (+55% – 1.554 million vs. 1.004 million) to its largest season lead in 26 years—since the 1994-1995 season. “World News Tonight” is beating “CBS Evening News” (5.809 million) by 3.620 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer season advantage in at least 29 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in the 1991-1992 season).

 

After winning the 2019-2020 season, “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 2nd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is leading NBC by its largest news demo margin (+294,000 – 1.851 million vs. 1.557 million) in 25 years—since the 1995-1996 season. “World News Tonight” is beating NBC in Adults 18-49 (+220,000 – 1.303 million vs. 1.083 million) for the first time at this point of a season in 25 years with its largest lead in 26 years—since the 1995-1996 and the 1994-1995 seasons, respectively.

 

“World News Tonight” also leads “CBS Evening News” by its biggest advantage in 16 years in Adults 25-54 (+768,000 – 1.851 million vs. 1.083 million) and Adults 18-49 (+528,000 – 1.303 million vs. 775,000)—since the 2004-2005 season, respectively.

 

World News Tonight” is retaining nearly all of its Total Viewers audience (9.429 million vs. 9.438 million) compared to the same point last season, seeing its 2nd most-watched season in 16 years—since the 2004-2005 season, respectively.

 

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.175 million, 1.598 million and 1.118 million, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.036 million, 873,000 and 592,000, respectively) by 3.139 million Total Viewers, by 725,000 Adults 25-54 and by 526,000 Adults 18-49.

 

NOTE: Due to the NCAA Championship game on Monday (4/5/21), “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws.” The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. CBS’ weekly averages are based on four days (Tues-Fri).
