“World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast across all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.765 million), Adults 25-54 (1.430 million) and Adults 18-49 (934,000) for the week of Sept. 6, 2021, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” led “NBC Nightly News” (6.468 million, 1.182 million and 828,000, respectively) by 1.297 million Total Viewers, by 248,000 Adults 25-54 and by 106,000 Adults 18-49.  “World News Tonight” has won the last 146 weeks in Total Viewers.

 

“World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 2 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.765 million) on all of television (excluding sports and syndication). 

 

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.757 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 5th consecutive season, based onMost Current Data. In fact, the ABC evening newscast is increasing its lead over “NBC Nightly News” (7.338 million) from the same point last season (+27% – 1.419 million vs. 1.113 million) to its largest season lead in 26 years — since the 1994-1995 season. “World News Tonight” is beating “CBS Evening News” (5.407 million) by 3.350 million.

 

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 2nd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is leading NBC by its largest margin in Adults 25-54 (+272,000 – 1.690 million vs. 1.418 million) in 25 years and in Adults 18-49 (+191,000 – 1.176 million vs. 985,000) in 26 years — since the 1995-1996 and the 1994-1995 seasons, respectively.

 

For the week, “World News Tonight” (7.765 million, 1.430 million and 934,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (6.639 million, 849,000 and 614,000, respectively) by 3.126 million Total Viewers, by 581,000 Adults 25-54 and by 320,000 Adults 18-49. 

 

NOTE: On Labor Day (9/6/21), “World News Tonight” and “NBC Nightly News” were coded as specials.  In addition, due to a special telecast of the NFL Opening game on Thursday (9/9/21), “NBC Nightly News” was retitled to “NBC Nitely News.”  The specialed and retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages.  ABC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday) and NBC’s averages are based on three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday).

 

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the executive producer of the broadcast.
