‘Nightline’ Ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers and Adults 25–54 for Third Time in Last Four Weeks

Ratings Report: ABC News’ “Nightline”

For Week of Feb. 22, 2021




ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 Total Viewers (868,000) and Adults 25-54 (292,000) for the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks for the week of Feb. 22, 2021, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (854,000 and 204,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+14,000) and Adults 25-54 (+88,000). In addition, “Nightline” defeated the CBS program in Adults 18-49 (+52,000 – 202,000 vs. 150,000).


“Nightline” also led NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers(832,000 and 291,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+36,000) and Adults 25-54 (+1,000).


Season to date, “Nightline” (305,000 and 210,000, respectively) is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (248,000 and 174,000, respectively) by its largest season margins in Adults 25-54 (+57,000) and Adults 18-49 (+36,000) in 5 years—since the 2015-2016 season.  


In addition, “Nightline” is slashing its margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 25-54 (-60% – 25,000 vs. 63,000) and Adults 18-49 (-64% – 16,000 vs. 44,000) versus the same point last season, posting its closest-ever performance with the NBC program in both measures since the two programs aired in their current time periods—since the 2014-2015 season.


Last week, “Nightline” featured stories on the young children who have been orphaned as the U.S. reached a milestone 500,000 COVID-19 deaths, the fallout from the Texas energy crisis, the growing movement of sobriety amid the pandemic, the conservatorship of Britney Spears and Tiger Woods’ car accident.


NOTE: On Friday (2/26/21), CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” was retitled to “Late Late Show-JC-ENC” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was retitled to “Seth Meyers-SM” due to being repeat airings. The telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. CBS’ and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
