‘20/20’ Has First TV Interview With Vanessa Guillen’s Fiance, One Year After Murder
Two-Hour Program Has Exclusive Interviews With Soldiers in Vanessa’s Unit
‘What Happened to Vanessa?’/’¿Qué le pasó a Vanessa?’ Airs on ‘20/20’ on Friday, June 11 (9:01-11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC
One year after Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen was brutally murdered and her story sparked a #MeToo movement in the military, “20/20” has the first television interview with her fiancé Juan Cruz. He opens up about their relationship, the last time they spoke, learning of her death and coping with the devastating loss. The two-hour program also has exclusive interviews with Betavious “Tay” Hightower and Ryan “Cj” Landy, soldiers from Vanessa’s unit who say they knew about the sexual harassment she experienced and opened up about their conversation with Vanessa’s killer, Aaron Robinson, the day Vanessa disappeared. “20/20” also reports on the Army command investigation that revealed missteps in the investigation into Robinson, previously unreported information about how Robinson may have attained the gun used when he died by suicide, what happened in the arms room where she worked, and the fall out resulting from the findings of the Fort Hood Independent Review that looked into the base’s command culture. Along with reporting by ABC News anchor John Quiñones, “20/20” features interviews with Vanessa’s parents, sisters and the family attorney, who are tirelessly advocating for justice and the passing of the “I am Vanessa Guillen Act.” “What Happened to Vanessa?”/ “¿Qué le pasó a Vanessa?” airs on “20/20” on Friday, June 11 (9:01–11:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC.
